WEINLAND PARK ES INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL

Weinland Park Staff has adopted the Schmoker Model for our school wide instructional model for the 15-16 school  year. Every Instructor has been trained in this Instructional Model and the Weinland Park Building Leadership Team has attended a Mike Schmoker (founder of the Schmoker Model) workshop to become well-versed in how to effectively implement this Model school wide and achieve high academic growth for each child. The Building Leadership team conducts monthly classroom observations as well as facilitates monthly school wide professional development to ensure effective adult implementation of the Schmoker Model.

Star Math Instructors grades K-3 have been trained to effectively implement the Cognitively Guided Math Framework.  CGI supports students' thinking to ensure each child is taught how to think creatively and helps Instructors to understand how students think so that they can guide them toward mathematical understanding.

Star Math Instructors grades 4-5 have been trained to effectively implement the Guided Math Model. This Model places a strong emphasis on small group instruction and individualized, standards aligned, differentiated instruction.

Star Reading Instructors grades 2-5 have been trained to effectively implement the Thinking Maps Model.  This approach to teaching and learning consistently utilizes the best practice of applying graphic organizers to support specific thinking skills and allow students to organize information.

Star Reading Instructors grades K-5 have been trained in a Response to Intervention strategy that will be implemented daily in the classroom to increase students' rate of fluency and accuracy leading to better comprehension and improved scores.
